Who is Bikram?

Bikram Choudhury grew up in India and began practicing hatha yoga at the age of 4. His teacher was Guru Bishnu Charan Ghosh, brother of Paramahansa Yogananda founder of The Self-Realization Fellowship and author of “Autobiography of a Yogi”. At the age of 13 he became of the youngest person ever to win the All-India Yoga Asana Championship and went on to win it for the next 2 years.


Bikram also excelled in weight-lifting until at 18, during practice a spotter dropped a 380-pound weight crushing his knee. He was then told be would be a cripple and probably never walk again. Once again he sought the help of his guru and with his constant guidance Bikram’s knee healed. His guru then sent him out into the world to teach yoga. In 1973 Bikram opened his first yoga school in Beverly Hills.
